A special treat for Chandos Arms Jazz tonight as we welcome charismatic saxophonist Nick Payn to the home of jazz in North London.
Nick’s illustrious career as a “gun-for-hire” session saxophonist and harmonica player has resulted in a list of performance credits which reads like a history of contemporary UK music. He’s recorded extensively with Gary Moore, Bill Wyman, The Kinks’ Ray Davies, Dr Feelgood, and many others. He has toured for many years with Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings, and other live work includes Van Morrison, Lonnie Donegan, Chas ’n’ Dave and Paul Young.
Nick’s playing is steeped in his love of the blues, but his encyclopaedic knowledge of jazz means he’ll be drawing on a huge repertoire of tunes both well-known and obscure when he plays the Chandos.
