Natalie Cole dies aged 65

Natalie Maria Cole (February 6, 1950 – December 31, 2015), whose hit songs included the duet Unforgettable with her father Nat "King" Cole, has died aged 65.

The Grammy-winning singer died on Thursday night at a hospital in Los Angeles, her publicist told the Associated Press news agency.

Thank you Albert Hammond for an unforgettable gig! I would also like to thank the awesome band for their performance that night. We had a blast and will definitely be at one of the next gigs of Albert Hammond and his band. 

I had the opportunity to see Albert Hammond and his Band again in Berlin at SchwuZ on 30th November 2015. It was a gig for free. It was recorded for ARTE & ZDF TV and although for an Albert Hammond DVD. We queued outside the venue for a long time but met some fans from Belgium, Netherlands, Bavaria. We ended up at the front and spent the time talking about our favourite gigs etc. Albert and the boys played for about two hours without an interval. Pretty much the same setlist as the gig in Hamburg. But he played "Goodnight Irene" in Hamburg as well as two more songs even after the encores. It was an amazing evening and worth all the traveling and waiting outside. Thank you Albert Hammond and his fab band.

John 'Brad' Bradley died aged 62

Very sad news. John 'Brad' Bradley, drummer with The Specials died yesterday aged 62. I was fortunate to get to know Brad in the mid 80s as he married my best mate's sister. The guy was an absolute font of knowledge of ska, reggae, soul and jazz music and a great guy to have a beer with.

John "Brad" Bradbury, drummer with The Specials, has died at the age of 62.
The ska group tweeted the news: "It is with deep regret that we say goodbye to our great friend, the world's greatest drummer, our beloved Brad. RIP."
Bradbury joined The Specials in 1979, and continued with the reversioned band The Special AKA, who had a top 10 hit with Free Nelson Mandela.
Bradbury took part in The Specials reunion tour in 2009. He also headed up a band called JB Allstars.
The band's representatives said the drummer died in England but no cause of death was given.
In a statement, his family said: "It is with deepest regret that we have to announce the very sad news that our much loved husband and father John 'Brad' Bradbury passed away on Monday the 28 of December.
"Brad's drumming was the powerhouse behind The Specials and it was seen as a key part to the Two Tone sound. He was much respected in the world of drumming and his style of reggae and ska was seen as genuinely ground-breaking when The Specials first hit the charts in 1979.
"He was an integral part of The Specials reforming in 2008 and toured with them extensively up to the present day. His contribution to the world of music can not be understated and he will much missed by family, friends and fans alike.
"It is the family's sincerest wish that they are allowed the time to remember him privately."
The news comes three months after the band's trombonist, Rico Rodriguez, died.
The band, famed for their 1960s mod-style outfits, had seven UK top 10 singles including Too Much Too Young and Ghost Town.
Founder and songwriter Jerry Dammers dissolved the band in 1981 but they re-grouped and continue to perform and record without their former leading man.
Billy Bragg was one of the first musicans to pay tribute to Bradbury.: "A bad day for good music. First we lose Lemmy, now news that Brad from the Specials has passed away. RIP."
Bradbury was born and brought up in Coventry where the band was formed in 1977.
Music producer Pete Waterman, also from Coventry, expressed his shock at the news of the Bradbury's death.
Speaking to BBC Coventry and Warwickshire, Waterman said: "I always had a good laugh with Brad. He was always proud of being in the band and what we'd and he'd achieved.
"He never left Coventry because he always wanted to be part of the scene... he was tremendous."

In 1965 The End arose from the glowing embers of the earlier Tuxedos, Innocents and Original Topics, and like many of their contemporaries evolved into a psychedelic group. Along the way, they won the support and patronage of the Rolling Stones’ Bill Wyman, who produced their sole album for Decca, “Introspection” (CD2). He also co-wrote their signature tune, the psychedelic classic “Shades Of Orange”, although the band wrote the rest of their material. This 4 CD box set gathers together all of The End’s extant recordings, the material on CDs 1, 3, and 4 having only previously been released on vinyl in the ‘90s. CD 1 covers the early days from 1964 to 1967, CD 2 is the 1968 “Introspection” album with two bonus tracks, CD 3 features outtakes from the period 1968/69, while CD 4 rounds up the band’s recordings from 1969/70, before they reinvented themselves as Tucky Buzzard. This clamshell box set also contains a booklet with artwork by legendary designer Phil Smee, including photos and ephemera, a note by founder member Colin Giffin, and the band’s story written by David Wells.

Scott Weiland, the former frontman for rock bands Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, has died, his Facebook page confirmed early Friday morning (Dec. 4).
"Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts," a post on Weiland's Facebook page reads. "At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected."
Dave Navarro, guitarist and member of Jane's Addiction, first tweeted the news at 9:01 p.m. PT on Thursday night: "Our friend Scott Weiland has died." (He has since deleted the tweet.)

Weiland and his latest band, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, were scheduled to tour this month with upcoming dates at Reno, NV on Dec. 18 and City Winery in Napa on Dec. 19.
The Bloomington, Minn. Police Department issued a statement at 11:15 p.m. PT detailing the events as such: On Dec. 3rd at 8:22 p.m., officers responded to a report of an unresponsive adult male in a recreational motor vehicle located in the 2200 block of Killebrew Drive. "Officers arrived and determined the adult male was deceased," read the release, which did not identify the deceased. The address seems to correspond to a local Country Inn & Suites hotel.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will continue investigating the death with updates to come.
Weiland turned 48 on Oct. 27. He long suffered from substance abuse issues.
A California native, Weiland formed the band Stone Temple Pilots with brothers Robert and Dean DeLeo and saw huge commercial success in the 1990s. In 1993, the band’s debut album Core peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 followed by an even bigger achievement a year later in 1994, when STP released the No. 1 album Purple, which contained several radio hits including the songs “Big Empty,” “Vasoline” and “Interstate Love Song.”
The band would eventually land 11 top 10 hits on the Alternative Songs chart, including the three-week No. 1 "Between the Lines" in 2010. "Interstate Love Song" led the Mainstream Rock Songs chart for 15 weeks.
Featuring Weiland’s distinctive lower register singing style, a sort of growl that grew ever more popular in the post-grunge years, STP went on to sell 13.5 million albums in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music, but infighting eventually drove the members apart. The band took the first of several hiatuses just a few years after reaching their apex of their popularity, during which Weiland participated in several side projects.

Stone Temple Pilots would carry on in various incarnation in the coming years. Most recently, the group recruited Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington to handle frontman duties. He announced his exit from the group on Nov. 9.
In 2002, Weiland joined former Guns N' Roses members Slash (guitars), Duff McKagan (bass) and Matt Sorum (drums) in a supergroup called Velvet Revolver. They released an album called Contraband in June 2004 and another in 2007 called Libertad, the last to feature Weiland on vocals. Combined, they sold 2.4 million units.
By then, Weiland had weathered several public run-ins with the law, mostly due to drug use and driving under the influence. In 1995, the singer was convicted of buying crack cocaine and sentenced to probation. In 2003 and 2007 Weiland was arrested for D.U.I. Heroin was also a drug of choice for Weiland, who had check into a rehabilitation facility but did not finish the program, according to reports around 2007.
Tributes to the late singer have been pouring in from all over the music world. Former MTV VJ and longtime radio personality Matt Pinfield wrote on Facebook “I am speechless … and sad at the loss of my friend, and although many of you are probably not surprised, it doesn't make it any easier. Addiction sucks. I will miss you Scott.”

Last time I saw him was at the Live 8 Concert in London with Velvet Revolver. It is so sad that we will never hear his voice again and never see his live performance again.

Jeffrey "Jeff" Lynne (born 30 December 1947) is an English songwriter, composer, arranger, singer, multi-instrumentalist and record producer who gained fame in the 1970s as the leader and sole constant member of Electric Light Orchestra. In 1988, he co-founded the supergroup Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty.

After ELO's original disbandment in 1986, Lynne released two solo albums: Armchair Theatre (1990) and Long Wave (2012). In addition, he began producing various artists, with his songwriting and production collaborations with ex-Beatles leading him to co-produce their mid 1990s reunion singles "Free as a Bird" (1995) and "Real Love" (1996).

In 2008, The Washington Times named Lynne the fourth greatest record producer in music history.

RIP Phil "The Animal" Taylor (1954 - 2015)

Phil Taylor (21 September 1954 – 11 November 2015), better known as "Philthy Animal" Taylor was an English rock drummer in the British heavy metal band Motörhead from 1975–1984 and 1987–1992 recording ten studio albums and the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith. The classic mark IV Motörhead line-up consisted of Lemmy, Taylor, and Fast Eddie Clarke.

Taylor reunited with Kilmister and Clarke on 6 November 2014 at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England on stage for Motörhead's classic "Ace of Spades" only to come on to wave to the crowd and leave. 

Phil Taylor died on 11 November 2015 at the age of 61 after an illness. "Fast" Eddie Clarke said of his former bandmate via Facebook:

"My dear friend and brother passed away last night. He had been ill for sometime but that does not make it any easier when the time finally comes. I have known Phil since he was 21 and he was one hell of a character. Fortunately we made some fantastic music together and I have many many fond memories of our time together. Rest in Peace, Phil!"

Helmut Schmidt (1918 - 2015)

Helmut Heinrich Waldemar Schmidt (* 23. Dezember 1918 in Hamburg; † 10. November 2015 ebenda) war ein deutscher Politiker der SPD. Von 1974 bis 1982 war er als Regierungschef einer sozialliberalen Koalition der fünfte Bundeskanzler der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.

Ab 1961 war Schmidt Senator der Polizeibehörde in Hamburg und erlangte während der Sturmflut 1962 als Krisenmanager große Popularität. Von 1967 bis 1969 war er Vorsitzender der SPD-Bundestagsfraktion, 1969 bis 1972 Bundesminister der Verteidigung, 1972 war er für ein halbes Jahr gleichzeitig Bundesminister für Wirtschaft und Finanzen. Bis 1974 war er Bundesminister der Finanzen.

Von 1983 bis zu seinem Tod war er Mitherausgeber der Wochenzeitung Die Zeit.

Er war ein sehr gradlinieger und streitbarer Politiker und sprach bis zum Ende Klartext. Eben typisch hamburgisch! 

Ab heute liegen die Kondolenzbücher im Rathaus in Hamburg aus.

Allen Toussaint (14.01.1938 - 10.11.2015)

Allen Toussaint, der in New Orleans am 14.01.1938 geboren ist, ist in Madrid am 10.11.2015 verstorben. Er war gerade auf einer Europa-Tournee. Er war ein amerikanischer Musiker und einer der einflussreichsten Plattenproduzenten der 1960er Jahre in New Orleans. Als Pianospieler mit eigenem Stil arrangierte, produzierte und komponierte er große Hits für US-amerikanische Interpreten, u. a. auch:

Working in the Coal Mine (Lee Dorsey) 
Fortune Teller (u.a. gecovert von den Rolling Stones) 
Southern Nights (Glen Campbell).
